On June 6, the 7th Economic Geography Outstanding Young Scholars Development Forum was held at JUFE. The forum featured a special keynote report delivered by Academician Fan Jie of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, titled "the Disciplinary Structure and Evolutionary Trends of Human Geography in China". The event was presided over by Liu Yaobin, Chairman of JUFE.
At the lecture, drawing on his decades of scientific research and practical experience and against the backdrop of contemporary progress and technological advancement, Academician Fan Jie systematically reviewed the century-long development, core characteristics and phased features of human geography in China. He also offered forward-looking insights into the future development directions and innovation paths of the discipline. Regarding its future growth, Academician Fan Jie pointed out that human geography in the new era needs to elevate its research value and shift its focus from "understanding and interpreting the world" to "transforming the world".
Liu Yaobin delivered concluding remarks on the report. He noted that human geography is a core fundamental discipline underpinning territorial spatial planning, coordinated regional development and ecological civilization construction. By reviewing the discipline's century-long evolution, the report accurately identified its existing challenges and scientifically mapped out innovative approaches for future research. He added that Academician Fan Jie's presentation features broad vision and strong guidance, offering valuable direction for JUFE's disciplinary development and the research work of young scholars.
