University Introduction

Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (hereinafter referred to as JUFE), jointly sponsored and governed by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, is a premier higher institution focusing on economics and management with coordinated development of law, engineering, humanities, science, and arts. As a leading university featuring finance and economics, JUFE ranks 7th in Chinese Financial and Economic University Rankings for years. On February 6, 2008, Premier Wen Jiabao celebrated the New Year’s Eve with JUFE’s faculty and students, and he praised JUFE as an excellent school in his speech, encouraging JUFE to keep striving for education that would meet the needs of people. 

1.History: JUFE started with Jiangxi Provincial Commercial School founded in the autumn of 1923. In 1958, the Jiangxi College of Finance and Economics was established, and it changed its name several times in history, and was even suspended during the Cultural Revolution. The school was reopened in 1978 and became a college directly under the Ministry of Finance in 1980. JUFE adopted its current name in 1996, and its direct regulator shifted from the Ministry of Finance to the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province in 2000 and then to the joint leadership of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province in 2012.

2.Features: Since its establishment, JUFE has been adhering to the motto of “Honesty, Vitality, Integrity and Tenacity” and the philosophy of “Dedication, Harmony and Perfection”, and cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents who represent the motto and philosophy. Additionally, invigorating the school by quality, specialties, faculty, rule of law and good morality, JUFE has blazed a new track of talent cultivation and boasts high student satisfaction in the less developed area. At the starting point of a new journey, the university is aiming for two goals: “world first-class disciplines” and a role model in serving economic and social development in Jiangxi Province, and moving ahead toward a high-level research university and “a prestigious century-old school”.

3.Campuses: JUFE is located in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province where the majestic Tengwang Pavilion, one of the 3-most-famous towers in South China in history, overlooks the mighty Ganjiang River. The school nestles snugly with the Ganjiang River to the east, the Meiling Mountain to the west, Lushan Mountain to the north and the Jinggangshan Mountain to the south. Composed of 4 campuses, Jiaoqiao, Mailu, Fenglin, and Qingshan (excluding the independent college of Gongqing), JUFE covers a total area of more than 21.46 million square meters and a construction area of over 1 million square meters and has a collection of 14.35 million books (including print books, electronic books and periodicals, dissertations, etc.). The fragrant and picturesque campuses with glittering lakes have earned JUFE a place on the top 300 Greening Units in China.

4.Organization: JUFE comprises 18 focused schools, School of Business Administration (including School of MBA Education), School of Public Finance and Public Administration, School of Accounting, School of International Trade and Economics, School of Economics, School of Finance, School of Statistics and Data Science, School of Information Management and Mathematics, School of Computer and Artificial Intelligence, School of Law, School of Software and Internet of Things Engineering (UF Software), School of Foreign Languages, School of Humanities,  School of Design and Arts, School of Physical Education (including Department of National Defense Education), School of Marxism Studies, School of Virtual Reality (VR) Industry, and School of Applied Economics (Digital Economy). Besides, JUFE has four colleges, namely, the International College, College of Overseas Education, College of Entrepreneurial Education, College of Continuing Education, as well as an independent college.

JUFE has 8 independent research institutions, including the Editorial Office of Contemporary Finance and Economics, the Think Tank Construction Center, the Institute of Industrial Economics, the Institute of Higher Education, the Key Laboratory of Financial Data Science, and the Institute of Ecological Civilization; 4 provincial-level collaborative innovation centers: The Center for Monitoring, Early Warning and Decision Support of Strategic Emerging Industry Development in Jiangxi Province, the Center for Decision Support of Building a Well-off Society in Jiangxi Province, the Center for the Rule-of-Law Construction in Jiangxi Province and the Center for the Construction of Ecological Civilization System in Jiangxi Province; 7 provincial-level key humanities and social science research bases: the Research Center for Regulation and Competition, the Research Center for Accounting Development, the Research Center for Financial Development and Risk Prevention, the Research Center for Industrial Clusters and Enterprise Development, the Research Center for Ecological Civilization and Modern China, the Research Center for Jiangxi Rule-of-Law Government, and the Research Center for Applied Statistics of Jiangxi Province; 5 Key Research Bases of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Jiangxi Province: the Research Institute for Ecological Economy, the Research Center for Finance and Taxation, Jiangxi Economic Forecasting and Decision-Making Research Center, National Development Trends Research Institute, and Red History Collection and Research Center. Other research centers affiliated with the schools include Modern Industrial Development Research Institute, Industrial Cluster and Enterprise Development Research Center, Enterprise Digital Transformation Promotion and Research Center, Financial and Taxation Research Center, Science and Technology and Finance Research Center, Rule-of-Law Government Research Center, and Modern Financial Research Institute.

5. Disciplines and Specialties: JUFE teaches and researches Economics, Management, Law, Engineering, Humanities, Science, Arts and other disciplines with 7 postdoctoral research stations and 7 primary doctoral degree programs in Applied Economics, Theoretical Economics, Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Statistics, Law and Marxist Theory. Besides, it offers 15 primary master’s degree programs (research), 21 master's degree programs (taught), and 52 undergraduate programs. JUFE has a national key cultivated discipline (Industrial Economics). In the 4th round of national discipline evaluation, Applied Economics and Statistics were awarded A- grade(top 10% nationwide); business Administration, B+ grade (top 20% nationwide); Theoretical Economics, Management Science and Engineering and Law, B grade (top 30% nationwide); Public Administration, B- grade(top 40% nationwide). Applied Economics, Statistics, Management Science and Engineering, and Business Administration were selected as “first-class construction disciplines in Jiangxi Province”. In 1998, JUFE was approved as the first university in Jiangxi Province to run the MBA program and in 2009, the first university to run the EMBA program in Jiangxi Province. In 2017, JUFE’s MBA education was accredited. In 2018, the university passed the national evaluation of the professional master’s degree program of Accounting and was awarded “A-level member institution”. JUFE has 34 national first-class construction undergraduate programs, 6 provincial first-class construction undergraduate programs, 6 national characteristic specialties (Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Information Management and Information System, Finance and Law), 10 provincial characteristic specialties, and 11 provincial first-class specialties. In the first round of comprehensive evaluation of undergraduate programs in Jiangxi Province, 23 of 38 specialties were ranked No.1, 7 were ranked No.2, and 4 were ranked No.3, so that the total programs among the top 3 accounted for 89.47%. In the second round of comprehensive evaluation of undergraduate programs in Jiangxi Province, and, 22 of 39 programs were ranked No.1, 10 were ranked No.2 and 5 were ranked No.3, on the quantitative and qualitative rankings so that the programs among the top 3 accounted for 95% and were selected as starred programs in Jiangxi Province in 2022. In this comprehensive evaluation, 18 programs were awarded five stars (best) and 19, four stars. Star-rated programs accounted for 95% of the total programs reviewed, which placed JUFE No.1 in all the universities in Jiangxi Province.

6. Teaching: In 2002 and 2007, JUFE successfully passed the undergraduate teaching assessment by the Ministry of Education and was rated “excellent” on both occasions. In 2016, the university was highly commended in the review of undergraduate teaching organized by the Ministry of Education. JUFE has won 3 National Excellent Teaching Achievement Awards, 34 national first-class construction undergraduate programs， 8 national quality courses, 4 national quality open online courses, 7 national quality resource sharing courses, 3 national bilingual demonstration teaching courses, 9 national quality open online courses(MOOC), 36 national first-class undergraduate courses, 3 national teaching teams, 21 provincial high-level teaching teams, 1 Huang Danian teaching team in national universities, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national virtual simulation experiment center, 1 national off-campus practice education base for university students, 2 national experimental zones for innovation in talent cultivation, 1 excellent legal talent training program, 1 application community of e-teaching of the Ministry of Education. JUFE has been awarded the Innovative Experiment Program University for National College Students, the English Teaching Reform Demonstration Project University for National College Students and the Cultural Quality Education Base for University Students of the Ministry of Education of China, etc. JUFE has 1 innovation and entrepreneurship park for university students in Jiangxi Province, 45 laboratories built by the central and local authorities, and 9 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. In 1994, the credit system was implemented, and students could take double majors(degrees), which was an early try all over the country. Since 2007, the university has been authorized to recommend outstanding undergraduates to study for master’s degree without examination.

7. Scientific research: from 2009 to now, JUFE has set up 380 projects of National Social Science Foundation, including 25 major bidding projects; 486 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, including 2 key projects; more than 10 research results were compiled into the National Social Science Planning Office “Results Report” and sent to the central leadership decision-making reference, 363 research results, research reports were approved by the central government and provincial and ministerial level leaders. The Ministry of Education has set up 187 humanities and social sciences projects, published more than 3,570 papers in international first-class journals and domestic authoritative journals, and won more than 430 awards from the Ministry of Education of China Colleges and Universities for Outstanding Achievements in Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, Jiangxi Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Research Award for Outstanding Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences, and Jiangxi Provincial Award for Outstanding Achievements in Social Sciences. The school has an engineering research center of the Ministry of Education (cultivation), the Ministry of Natural Resources Engineering Technology Innovation Center (joint) 1, Jiangxi Province, “2011 Collaborative Innovation Center” 4, 7 key research bases of humanities and social sciences in Jiangxi Province, 5 key research bases of philosophical and social sciences in Jiangxi Province, 2 engineering technology research centers in Jiangxi Province, 2 key laboratories in Jiangxi Province, 2 key laboratories in Jiangxi Province, and 2 key laboratories in Jiangxi Province. Sponsored by the “Contemporary Finance and Economics” was selected by the General Administration of Press and Publication of the first “National Top 100 Social Science Journals”, the third National Journal Award 100 key journals, authoritative social science journals in national colleges and universities; Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics Journal (bimonthly) was selected by the national universities and colleges of social sciences quality journals, both journals for the CSSCI source journals, the national Chinese core journals. Both journals are CSSCI source journals and national Chinese core journals.

Relying on the advantages of disciplines, talents and intellectuals, JUFE connects closely with the actual economic and social development of Jiangxi Province, conducts in-depth investigation and research with distinctive financial characteristics, focusing on the major issues in the economic, social and cultural development and construction of Jiangxi Province so that it may be able to provide important research results, policy recommendations and advice with significant decision-making reference for the government, enterprises and social management departments. The results of the relevant papers have been repeatedly recognized by the provincial leaders, giving full play to the university’s role as a think tank and solution bank driving up local economic and social development. In response to the new call for a lifelong education and a learning society, JUFE actively promotes the transformation of traditional adult education to modern continuing education, and undertakes training business entrusted by national ministries and commissions as well as finance, taxation, finance, banking and insurance sectors, governments, enterprises and other industries across the country every year, taking social development and market demand as the guide, and contributing to local economic and social development by fully relying on the advantages of disciplines.

8. Faculty and staff: JUFE employs 2,313 faculty and staff members. including 1,441 full-time teachers, of whom 293 are senior professionals and 525 are associate professionals; 904 have doctoral degrees; 199 are doctoral supervisors; and 953 are master's supervisors. There are 2 academicians, 14 national talents, 3 national “One Million Talents Project” recipients, 2 national “Outstanding Youth Science Fund” recipients, 1 national “Outstanding Youth Science Fund” recipient, 1 national “Outstanding Youth Science Fund” recipient, 1 national “Outstanding Youth Science Fund” recipient, 1 national “Outstanding Youth Science Fund” recipient from Ministry of Education. Recipients of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, Ministry of Education's “New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program”, National Teaching Masters, National Model Teachers, 16 people enjoying the State Council's special governmental allowances, 33 people from Jiangxi Province's “Double-Thousand Program”, 16 people from Jiangxi Province's Ganshao Talents 555 Project, and 16 people from Jiangxi Province's Jiangxi Province's Ganpo Talents 555 Project. There are 16 engineers and 7 special professors of “Jinggang Scholars” in Jiangxi Province. Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences Wang Zikun and He Zuochao, President of China Society of Higher Education Zhou Yuanqing, and former Party Secretary of Nanjing University Hong Yinxing serve as consultants of JUFE; more than 330 famous scholars, experts and entrepreneurs at home and abroad have been appointed as visiting professors of JUFE.

9. Enrollment and Employment: Through years of development, JUFE has formed a pattern of running schools with undergraduate and postgraduate education as the main body and continuing education and international student education as the supplement. JUFE enrolls students from 33 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and special administrative regions in China, and has long been in the forefront of Jiangxi colleges and universities in terms of average score of admission. There are 26,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 6,000 graduate students. The employment  maintains a good trend, the general undergraduate students' advancement rate has been at a record high year after year, and a group of graduates have entered the world's top 20 famous colleges and universities for further study, including MIT, Oxford University and other colleges and universities. JUFE was awarded the honor of “Advanced Collective for Employment Work of Graduates of General Colleges and Universities” and “Excellent Grade for Employment Work Evaluation of Graduates of General Colleges and Universities” in Jiangxi Province from 2016 to 2018, and in 2010, JUFE was awarded the first batch of “National Colleges and Universities with Typical Experience in Employment” by the Ministry of Education. In 2010, the university was honored by the Ministry of Education as one of the first batch of “Top 50 Colleges and Universities with Typical Experiences in National Employment”, and in 2012, the university was honored by the State Council as “National Advanced Employment Work Unit”. It is ranked No. 7 in China in “2023 Alumni Ranking of Chinese Financial Universities”; No. 98 in China in “2023 Alumni Ranking of Chinese Universities”; and No. 8 in the overall alumni rankings of the graduating colleges and universities of finance executives of A-share companies in 2022; In 2023, the university ranked 30th in China in terms of alumni power in the capital circle; 45th in 2022 in terms of China's most wealth-creative universities; and 87th in 2023 in terms of salary index for graduates of national colleges and universities. The university has been approved as one of the first batch of “Model Colleges for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform” by the Ministry of Education (2016), “Top 50 Colleges and Universities with Typical Experiences of Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (2017), and one of the first batch of “National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education and Practice Bases” (2022). The implementation rate of graduation destination is among the top universities in the province. In recent years, CCTV, People's Daily, China Education News and other central media have reported on JUFE's talent cultivation and employment work.

10. Internationalization: JUFE is committed to opening up and seeks to expand cooperation and partnership with more universities from overseas or beyond the borders. Currently, JUFE enjoys stable partnership with more than 190 universities from 50 countries and regions, such as USA, Canada, UK, France, Russia, Australia, Finland, Denmark, Portugal etc.. JUFE has joined 14 international organizations such as International Exchange Student Organization, International Business School Alliance, China-Russia Economic University Alliance, United Nations Academic Impact, International Social Work Education Alliance, China-ASEAN Tourism Education Alliance, Eurasian-Pacific Academic Association, University Association of China-Central and Eastern European Countries, Asia Pacific Tourism Association, China-Thailand Higher Education Alliance and North American Case Society. In 2013, JUFE was approved as a host university for international students with Chinese government scholarships by the Ministry of Education, and was approved to run the Master of International Business Program by the Ministry of Commerce. Since 2014, JUFE has been awarded the International Exchange Program for Outstanding Undergraduates by China Scholarship Council, graduate students Program under the State Scholarship Fund for the National Construction of High-level Universities, Independent Recruitment Program funded by the “Silk Road” Scholarship of the Chinese Government, the International Cooperation Training Program for Innovative Talents, the Rural Revitalization Program, and the Country and Region Research Talent Support Program. 3 projects on the “High-end Foreign Experts Introduction Program” were also approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Since 1998, JUFE has been approved to run the Sino-US (JUFE and New York Institute of Technology) MBA Program and Sino-Australian (JUFE and University of South Australia) MBA Program. In 2015, it was approved to establish a Sino-foreign cooperation program with the University of Dalana (Sweden) for a dual degree program in Software Engineering. In May 2016, the Confucius Institute, built by JUFE in cooperation with Coventry University(UK)，officially started to run. JUFE was approved as a test center for TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, IELTS, ACCA, CIMA, FRM and HSK in China. In 2002, the International School was established and opened a pilot class for undergraduate teaching, with four programs: Accounting (International Accounting), International Economics and Trade(CITF), Finance (International Investment and Finance) and Finance (CFA), and also offered Accounting (ACCA), Accounting (CIMA), Finance (FRM direction), International Marketing, International Economics and Trade, and other related majors. The teaching methods and resources are in line with international standards, forming the internationalized educational characteristics of “teaching and learning together, combining China and the West, cooperating with both the overseas and domestic, and grafting at a high level”.

In 1997, JUFE matriculated the first batch of international students from Vienna University of Economics in Austria. Currently, JUFE offers courses conducted in English for the overseas undergraduates and postgraduates and doctorate pursuers. Education for international students in China was accredited by the Ministry of Education in 2018. Since 2013, JUFE has been sending over 2,000 students to pursue further studies in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France, Finland, Netherlands and other countries. More than 1,000 students have graduated and gone on to study for master’s or doctor’s degrees at the top 100 universities in the world, and more than 100 of them have entered the top 20 universities in the world, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and Columbia University.

11. Student Awards: In 2019, JUFE won the special prize of the National Challenge Cup Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Work Competition for College Students, in 2018, he won the gold medal of the National Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students, and in 2021, he won the second prize of the National Challenge Cup. “In 2021, it won the second prize in the National Challenge Cup Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Works Competition for College Students; in 2023, it won the gold prize in the 13th Challenge Cup Entrepreneurship Plan Competition for Chinese College Students; in 2023, it won the first prize in the 18th Challenge Cup Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Works Competition for College Students. The student association Green Club was honored as one of the “100 Best Student Associations” and “Protecting Mother River” by the Central Committee of the Youth League, the Student Empowerment Club was honored as one of the “100 Best Clubs” in China, and the Student Tennis Team was honored as a national high-level sports team.JUFE has integrated the cultivation and practice of socialist core values into the entire education, promoted the project of cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and improved the talent cultivation mechanism of “interaction of 3 classrooms and mutual promotion of 3 types of practices”. Students won the grand prize in the “Challenge Cup” Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Competition of National University Students in 2019, the gold award in the “Youth Creation” College Students’ Entrepreneurship Competition in 2018. 12. Reputation: JUFE has been awarded “National Advanced Unit of University Students Social Practice because students have took scientific literacy and medical service to rural areas during the summer vacation” for 22 consecutive years, and has been awarded as National Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization Construction, National Advanced Unit of Education System, National Model Collective of Ethnic Solidarity and Progress, National Advanced Unit of Legal Education, National Advanced Unit of Art Education in Colleges and Universities, National Advanced Unit of Military Training for College and University Students, National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee, National Model Staff House, Advanced Unit for College Students’ Employment in Jiangxi Province.

Since JUFE was founded, it has trained more than 300,000 talents for the country, and most of the alumni have now become the backbones of their companies, and even become senior leaders in the business, political and academic circles.
