From November 1st to 2nd, 2025, the 2025 Academic Annual Conference of the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association and the 20th International Forum on Social Policy were held at Nankai University in Tianjin. The conference was sponsored by the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association and the School of Sociology of Nankai University, undertaken by the Department of Social Work and Social Policy and the Institute of Social Construction and Management of Nankai University, and co-organized by Nankai Journal. More than 180 experts, scholars, teachers and students from 76 units attended the conference, including 11 international universities such as University of Oxford, University of York, University of Leeds, University of New South Wales, University of Melbourne, and University of Toronto; domestic universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, and Nankai University; research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Shandong Academy of Social Sciences; and academic journals such as Nankai Journal and Tianjin Social Sciences. They gathered to discuss the theme of “Towards a More Equitable, Balanced, Inclusive and Accessible Social Policy”. More than ten teachers and students from JUFE School of Sociology and Humanities, including Vice Dean Hong Lumin, Professor Yin Pingjun, Associate Professor Wang Zheng, and Dr. Yuan Xiaomei, participated in the conference for exchanges.

On the morning of the 1st, the conference kicked off grandly at Nankai University. At the beginning of the opening ceremony, Liang Qi, Deputy Party Secretary of Nankai University, delivered a welcome speech. Professor Zhao Deyu delivered the opening speech of the conference. He emphasized that in the past 20 years, China’s social policy has undergone tremendous changes in practice, and continuously promoting social policy to be more equitable, balanced, inclusive and accessible is the direction and trend for the whole society to strive for in the future. The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Professor Wu Fan, Vice Dean of School of Sociology of Nankai University and Deputy Director of the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the International Forum on Social Policy, a special commemorative ceremony was held. Professor Guan Xinping, the former Chairman of the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association, Researcher Yang Tuan, the former Chairman of the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association, and the Secretary-General Fang Lijie of the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association presented commemorative plaques to universities and research institutions that had hosted/organized the International Forum on Social Policy over the past 20 years. Professor Hong Lumin accepted the commemorative plaque on behalf of JUFE (host of the 13th forum).

With the theme of “Towards a More Equitable, Balanced, Inclusive and Accessible Social Policy”, this grand event brought together experts, scholars, teachers and students from international and domestic universities, research institutes and academic journals to conduct in-depth discussions on cutting-edge theories, methodological innovations and practical applications in various core fields of social policy. They jointly discussed the development plan of social policy and contributed valuable academic wisdom and practical solutions to the new construction of the social policy system in the new era.
At the same time, it also provided an excellent opportunity for teachers and students of JUFE to connect with the academic frontier. Teachers and students were able to listen to the insights of authoritative experts in various fields up close, broaden their academic horizons, and inspired research inspiration. In the exchanges and interactions with peers, they accurately identified the innovation points and breakthrough directions of their own research, improved the pertinence and depth of research, guided teachers and students to pay more attention to social reality needs, enhanced their sense of social responsibility and mission, and contributed to promoting the modernization of the social governance system.
