I. Overview

The School of Physical Education, founded in 2003, was built on the basis of its predecessor, the Department of Military and Physical Training. The school has under its umbrella three departments including the Department of Public Sports, the Department of Sports Theory, and the Department of National Defense Education, as well as several teaching and research institutions including Jiangxi Province Social Sports Central-Local Practice Base, Jiangxi Province Social Sports Experiment Demonstration Center, JUFE International Sports Industry Research Institution, and JUFE Sports and Tourism Research Institution.

II. Faculty

The school has a faculty pool of 67, including 1 professor, 28 associate professors, 11 teachers with doctorates, 27 teachers with master’s degrees, 8 national referees, 9 first-level instructors of social sports, 2 athletes, 13 university-level gold medal teachers, and 2 guest professors.

2. Talent Cultivation Goals

This school aims to cultivate innovative and entrepreneurial talents in sports who have a comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and aesthetics, meet the needs of socio-economic development, master the basic theoretical knowledge of economics and management of modern sports and the abilities of business operation and sports market development, are able to engage in the operation and management of sports administrative organs, sports competition organizations, sports education departments, and sports training industries, and have the qualities of honesty, excellence, integrity, and perseverance. This school strives to achieve the integration of sports and management, reflecting the cultivated characteristics of social sports talents in financial colleges and universities, and eventually cultivating social sports talents with management knowledge.

3. Talent Cultivation Features

The talent cultivation goals conform to the development trend of the sports industry, meet the needs of social development for professional talents, and achieve a balance in the management and training of sports capabilities. The school not only fully integrates advantageous resources, but also makes the students more competitive.

4. Length of Schooling and Awarding of Degrees

The standard length of schooling for social sports guidance and management is four years, with a flexible learning period of 3-6 years. Those who meet the degree requirements shall be awarded a bachelor's degree in education.

IV. Talent Cultivation Achievements

1. Awards

33 students of our school have won first prizes, second prizes, and third prizes in the National Orienteering Contest for College Students, the National English Contest for College Students, the National Tournament for Inline Roller Skating, the National Sports Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Sports Colleges and Universities, the Jiangxi Basketball League for College Students, the Jiangxi Aerobics Tournament for Primary School, Middle School and College Students, the 13th China Health and Vitality Competition for College Students, the China Aerobics Tournament for College Students, the Jiangxi Province First Fancy Rope Skipping Competition, the 14th Games of Jiangxi Province, and the Jiangxi Province Bodybuilding Competition, etc.

By the end of 2018, students had published ten papers and received one appearance patent.

3. Graduate Cultivation

The graduates majoring in economics and management of sports shall be awarded a master's degree in management.

VI. Teaching and Research Achievements

In the past five years, the school has won five projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, five projects of Jiangxi Social Science Foundation, two provincial outstanding achievement awards in social sciences, one national teaching achievement award, and 13 teaching awards at the provincial level and above.

VII. International Cooperation and Exchange

Since 2012, the school has made breakthroughs and progress in hosting and participating in international conferences and applying for international research projects. In 2012, led by Yi Jiandong, the school applied for the EU project Sport across international boundaries: building knowledge through shared understanding (PIRSES-GA-2011-295244) in cooperation with two universities in the United Kingdom and France. In 2015, the school hosted a thematic meeting about the International Journal of the History of Sport indexed into SSCI, attended by experts from the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, France, and other countries.
