I. Overview

The Department of Economic and Cultural Communication was established in March 1995, and renamed as the School of Arts and Communication in June 2002. In June 2008, the school gained the name School of Art, which it enjoys today.

II. Faculty

The school boasts 12 professors, 39 associate professors, 21 teachers with doctorates, 1 expert judge of national arts and crafts masters, 1 highly-skilled talent in the cultural industry of the Ministry of Culture, 1 candidate of the  Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project in Jiangxi Province, 1 young leading talent of Jiangxi Double Thousand Plan, 2 evaluation experts of the National Social Science Foundation of China, 3 young and middle-aged academic leaders of higher education institutions in Jiangxi province, and 3 academic leaders in the culture and art of Jiangxi province.

2. Talent Cultivation Goals

The school aims to cultivate professionals who have a comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and aesthetics, meet the needs of economic, social, and cultural development, possess solid knowledge and ability in arts and economic management, and are able to engage in art design, art performance, and art management in enterprises, public institutions, and government agencies.

3. Talent Cultivation Features

In terms of basic qualities, students should establish a correct world outlook and view of life, possess the qualities of dedication, solidarity and cooperation, and have a strong understanding of humanity, a healthy mind, and strong physique. In terms of basic knowledge, students should master the basic theories related to art, and understand the trends and frontiers of the various art disciplines. In terms of basic skills, students should possess excellent aesthetic judgement and artistic performance, and grasp the professional skills related to art work.

4. Length of Schooling and Awarding of Degrees

The length of schooling for undergraduates is 4 years.

The length of schooling for postgraduates is 3 years.

IV. Talent Cultivation Achievements

In the past five years, students of our school have won 1037 awards in important competitions both at home and abroad. Students majoring in design have won 25 international awards including the Red Dot Design Award of Germany, the IDEA of America, and the iF Product Design Award of iF Industrie Forum Design, 33 national first prizes, 37 second prizes, 58 third prizes, and 193 excellence prizes including the Red Star Design Award (Red Star Design Award • Original Solution and Future Star Award), the National 3D Innovation Design Competition, the National College Digital Art and Design Competition, the China Creativity and Innovation Competition for College Students, the Chinese Architectural Art Young Designers Prize, the Zhongzhuang Cup National Undergraduate Space Design Competition, the China Star Design Art Award, the China Pack Star Design Competition, the China Universities Industrial Design Competition and the National Advertising Design Competition for College Students, and 96 provincial first prizes, 157 second prizes, 267 third prizes, and 196 excellence prizes. The film Urban Migratory Birds produced by the students became the first film in China to be filmed and distributed by college students. Students majoring in music performance participated in large-scale cultural activities to celebrate the National Day in Jiangxi and undertook a special art performance of the Grand Stage for Common People in Jiangxi province. As the only university team, Xinyue Chorus participated in the artistic performance to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the anti-fascist war in Jiangxi province and the teacher and student delegation went to the UK to carry out an eight-day art tour themed Light of Civilization at the Headquarters of the Confucius Institute.

VI. Teaching and Research Achievements

The teachers of our school have produced more than 100 projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the China National Arts Fund, the Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education, and others. They have published more than 100 monographs and textbooks as well as thousands of papers and won more than 10 national teaching achievement awards and provincial scientific research awards.

VII. International Cooperation and Exchange

The school insists on open collaboration with other universities, and has carried out long-term cooperation and exchange with more than 10 foreign art schools and research institutions, such as the School of Design and Architecture of Monash University in Australia, the School of Art and Engineering of Kyushu University in Japan, Chiba University in Japan, Hochschule fr Musik und Theater Hannover in Germany, Arts University Bournemouth, and the Belarusian State Academy of Music. It has made substantial progress in student training, staff exchange and cooperative research.
