I. Overview

In July 1998, the School of Information Management was built on its predecessor, the Department of Economic Information Management, which was initially established in 1988. The honorary dean of the school is Professor Wu Jiapei, a well-known Chinese economist and founder of Chinese quantitative economics and information economics. The school has successively won titles, including National Education Advanced Unit, Model Branch in National Party Building, Jiangxi Education Advanced Unit, Jiangxi Advanced Unit in Teachers' Morality Construction, and Advanced Unit of Ideological and Political Education in Colleges and Universities of Jiangxi Province.

 

II. Faculty

The school has a faculty pool of 111, including 19 professors, 41 associate professors, 29 doctoral supervisors, 53 master supervisors, 39 enterprise cooperation tutors, and 75 teachers with doctorates.

2. Talent Cultivation Goals

The school aims to cultivate students with noble character, sound personality, and civic awareness and to hone their abilities to learn, practice, innovate, and become entrepreneurs.

3. Talent Cultivation Features

The school focuses on cultivating students who can fully utilize their strengths in information technology and understand financial and economic management.

4. Length of Schooling and Awarding of Degrees

Doctoral Students: The standard length of schooling is three years, and the maximum length of schooling can be extended up to six years.

Postgraduates: The standard length of schooling is three years, and the maximum length of schooling can be extended up to four years.

Undergraduates: The standard length of schooling lasts for four years, with a flexible learning period of 3-6 years. Those who meet the degree requirements shall be awarded a bachelor’s degree in management, engineering, or science.

IV. Talent Cultivation Achievements

1. Awards 

In the past three years, students have won 3 first prizes and 6 second prizes in the China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, 2 first prizes and 10 second prizes in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling in America, 13 first prizes and 8 second prizes in Chinese Mathematics Competitions, 1 international excellence prize and 3 national silver awards in the National ACM Programming Contest for College Students, 1 first prize and 5 second prizes in the “Lanqiao Cup National Software and Information Technology Professionals Contest, and 5 second prizes in the National Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling.

2. Student Publications and Patents

In the past three years, 15 provincial-level and more than 100 university-level research projects have been established. In addition, students have published more than 100 papers in important journals, including 8 academic papers in international class A journals, 19 in domestic authoritative journals, and 65 in SCI, SSCI, CSSCI and EI. They have also obtained six invention patents and one software copyright in cooperation with tutors.

3. Graduate Cultivation

Relying on key laboratories, key research bases, and key research projects, the school combines scientific research, talent training, social service, and cultural inheritance to train graduates in systematic scientific thinking and research capabilities so as to improve their innovative ability and comprehensive quality. It continues to upgrade the traditional method of guiding graduate students collectively, actively implements the mode of joining teams, projects, laboratories, and practical departments early, and strengthens the whole process management of graduate cultivation. Additionally, the school encourages students to produce high-quality research results, and introduces various incentive policies for graduate students.

VI. Teaching and Research Achievements

In recent years, our faculty members have undertaken 128 projects (including one national excellent youth project) funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Foundation of China, one major project supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and more than 200 provincial and ministerial projects. Additionally, they have won one national third prize for progress in science and technology as well as 30-plus awards in natural science, for progress in science and technology and outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences at provincial and ministerial levels. Over 30 essays in international authoritative class A journals, more than 500 essays in domestic and foreign authoritative journals, and over 50 monographs and textbooks have been published.

The school has two national teaching teams for management decision-making and decision support as well as information systems, four national excellent courses on operational research, database systems and application, information system analysis and design, and decision-making theory and method, three national excellent resource-sharing courses on database systems and application, information system analysis and design, and decision-making theory and method, one national bilingual teaching demonstration course on object-oriented programming, and one national excellent open online course on operational research. “The Teaching Mode of ‘Four Dimensions, Six Orientations and Two Subjects Interaction’ for the Cultivation of Innovative Talents” won the second prize of the 6th National Teaching Achievements of Higher Education.

 

VII. International Cooperation and Exchange

The school is committed to internationalization and attaches great importance to exchange and cooperation with internationally renowned universities and research institutes. It has conducted negotiations and exchanges for cooperative education with universities such as Coventry University and the University of Essex in the UK, and Chonbuk National University in Korea. In 2018 and 2019, overseas students were recruited to study full-time for an undergraduate degree in computer science. During their studies at the school, they were taught in English and a good response to the teaching was achieved.
