New Breakthrough! Professor Fang Yuming Elected IEEE Fellow

Recently, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) released its list of members elevated to Fellow for 2026. Professor Fang Yuming of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE) was elected an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to visual saliency detection and perceptual quality assessment. He is JUFE’s first IEEE Fellow cultivated entirely in-house.

Professor Fang Yuming is a Member of the University CPC Standing Committee and Vice President of JUFE, a professor and doctoral supervisor, a selectee of a national-level major talent program, a recipient of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and an expert receiving the State Council Special Allowance. He has been listed among Elsevier's Highly Cited Chinese Researchers (2020–2024). He serves as Director of the MOE Engineering Research Center for Big Data in Finance and Economics (in cultivation) and Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Multimedia Processing; he has served on the editorial boards of leading journals including IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. He is a Governing Board Member/Distinguished Member of the China Computer Federation (CCF) and a Governing Board Member of the China Society of Image and Graphics (CSIG). His research focuses on artificial intelligence, computer vision, and multimodal information processing. He has led over 20 national and ministerial projects (including NSFC Key, Excellent Young Scientists, and General programs; and key R&D/major project tasks of the Ministry of Science and Technology), received the First Prize of the Jiangxi Natural Science Award and the Jiangxi Youth Science and Technology Award, published 100+ papers with 12,000+ Google Scholar citations, and been granted dozens of invention patents. He has chaired organizing committees of major conferences multiple times and delivered numerous invited keynotes.


Professor Fang's election to IEEE Fellow is a high recognition of his academic achievements in computer vision, and marks a new step in JUFE's international influence in artificial intelligence. It is also a strong endorsement of the University's research innovation and talent training. JUFE will continue to provide fertile ground for outstanding young scholars, build platforms for scholarly exchange, and improve incentive mechanisms to support rapid growth.
