JUFE Hosts 2025 Academic Symposium on ASEAN Economic Development and Cooperation

From November 20 to 22, the "2025 Academic Symposium on ASEAN Economic Development and Cooperation," jointly organized by Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE) and the Asian Integrative Studies and Dialogue Center (AISDC), was held at the Wenyan Jianguo Hotel in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. Hosted by JUFE's Institutes of Area Studies, School of International Economics and Politics, and School of Overseas Education, the symposium centered on the theme"Opportunities and Challenges for China-ASEAN Regional Cooperation in a Changing Global Landscape." Over 150 experts and scholars from universities, think tanks, and media outlets in China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, and other countries attended the event.


Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on several key topics, including China-ASEAN industrial and supply chain cooperation amidst global changes, artificial intelligence and the green transition in China-ASEAN relations, the reshaping of China-ASEAN trade and investment patterns in the new era, ASEAN vocational education and industrial development in the AI age, and the mutual reinforcement of the WTO and RCEP in fostering new opportunities for Asia-Pacific cooperation.


The opening ceremony featured addresses by Liu Yaobin, Secretary of the JUFE Party Committee; Cho Chiong Tan, Chief Scientist of the Department of Traditional Medicine, Philippines Department of Science and Technology and Representative of the AISDC Chairperson; and Tu Anbo, Full-time Vice President of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Chen, Director of the University Party and Administrative Office.

Liu Yaobin emphasized that the symposium responds to the needs of the times and the imperative for China and ASEAN to pursue joint development. He highlighted JUFE's achievements in area studies, particularly in ASEAN-related research, and expressed the university's commitment to deepening practical cooperation with ASEAN countries, contributing "JUFE's wisdom" to regional development.

Speaking on behalf of AISDC, Cho Chiong Tan outlined the center's role as a bridge in promoting academic exchange and knowledge sharing between China and ASEAN.

Tu Anbo stated that Jiangxi Province will continue to optimize its services for foreign engagement, ensure the effective implementation of cooperation projects with ASEAN, and contribute to building a closer regional cooperation framework.

The keynote speech session featured presentations by a distinguished lineup of experts, including Ma Jianchun, President of the China Society for World Trade Organization Studies; HENG Vuthy, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Cambodia; Peng Gang, former Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Mission to the European Union; Cho Chiong Tan; Xiao Lianbing, former Secretary-General of the International Exchange, Cooperation, and Communication Center of Guangming Daily; Feng Lingbing, Vice Dean of JUFE's National Conditions Research Institute; Li Jianmin, Dean of the Confucius Institute at the National University of Laos; Hao Tingting, Secretary-General of the Carbon Neutrality Committee of the China-Asia Economic Development Association; Liang Guanghan, Associate Professor at Sun Yat-sen University's School of Journalism and Communication; Athor Subroto, Professor at JUFE's Institutes of Area Studies; Wu Chaoyang, Dean of JUFE's Institutes of Area Studies; and Chen Zhe, Vice Dean of JUFE's Institutes of Area Studies.


Professor Wu Chaoyang presided over the closing ceremony. He noted that the symposium, with its substantial agenda, profound discussions, and fruitful outcomes, successfully established a high-level platform for academic dialogue. It contributed valuable intellectual resources to deepening China-ASEAN regional cooperation, for which he extended sincere gratitude to all participants and the organizing team.

During the symposium, attendees also visited local enterprises such as Huangshanghuang Group and Changlv Group, gaining firsthand insights into the development of Jiangxi's local economy and cultural industries.
