On April 14, Maria Fasli, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex, Simon Foster, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex, and their delegation visited JUFE to carry out the Partnership Day. During the visit, Liu Yaobin, Chairman of JUFE, met with Maria Fasli and her delegation. Mr. Yuan Honglin, Vice President of JUFE, Maria Fasli, Assistant Vice President of the University of Essex, Mr. Simon Foster, along with directors from relevant units of the Universities, participated in the meeting presided over by Mr. Gong Meijun, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office.
Liu Yaobin expressed his warm welcome to the delegation from the University of Essex. He introduced the basic situation of JUFE and emphasized that JUFE attaches great importance to the educational cooperation with the University of Essex, and will actively carry out more effective and deeper cooperation in the future in the areas of cooperation in running a school and joint research.
Yuan Honglin reviewed the exchange history of the two universities in the past twenty years, affirmed the achievements in the exchange of teachers and students since the beginning, and thanked the University of Essex for its attention and support in talent cultivation and cooperation between the two universities. At the same time, he pointed out that he hoped the two universities would further deepen the cooperation in the fields of joint cultivation of talents and scientific research cooperation, which would boost the development of the two universities.
Maria Fasli spoke highly of the achievements of JUFE and emphasized the significance of the cooperation between the two universities on globalized education. She said that the University of Essex will rely on its advantages in finance, computer science and other disciplines to explore more opportunities for cooperation in cutting-edge fields with JUFE.
At the symposium, Liu Dexi, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Lu Xiaomei, Dean of the International College, Du Jiangze, Associate Dean of the School of Finance, and Dr. Sun Mingchen (an alumnus of the University of Essex) delivered speeches respectively, exchanging and discussing the paths and directions of deepening cooperation in the future.
Subsequently, Yuan Honglin and Simon Foster signed a new round of cooperation memorandum and Essex Global Cooperative Institution Scholarship Agreement on behalf of the two universities. The University of Essex also awarded scholarships to outstanding students of JUFE, aiming to encourage more students to go to the UK for exchange and study.
After the meeting, Maria Fasli gave a keynote lecture to the students and faculty in the School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, discussing the new path of technology development in the light of the research achievements of the University of Essex and her own personal research in related fields. The lecture was very interactive and received a great response from students and teachers.
Simon Foster and the China team held a special seminar to introduce in detail the characteristics of the University of Essex's academic disciplines and study policies, which was enthusiastically participated by the students and further stimulated the enthusiasm of JUFE students to go to foreign exchanges.
The success of this Partnership Day not only deepened the friendship between the two universities, but also laid a more solid foundation for future cooperation.
The University of Essex, founded in 1964, is a comprehensive university authorized by the British Royal Family. Since the establishment of the partnership between the two universities in 2008, the two universities have frequent and active exchanges between teachers and students, and have sent more than 200 students to each other in the past 20 years, and both sides have carried out various academic lectures and exchange visits. The two universities are currently engaged in short-term exchange, 3+1 master's degree and 1+1+1 master's degree joint programs.
