This paper is the first to innovatively assess borrowers' creditworthiness in the consumer credit market by analyzing real-time video information of borrowers during the loan application process using deep learning-based frame-by-frame analysis. The study found that the level of happiness displayed by borrowers is negatively correlated with the likelihood of loan delinquency, while the level of fear is positively correlated with delinquency risk. These results align with two economic mechanisms discussed in the psychology and economics literature: the sufficiency of future income and uncertainty. This research provides significant practical insights for financial technology lenders and policymakers.
Review of Finance is one of the internationally recognized top journals in finance and is the official journal of the European Finance Association. It is also listed among the FT50 journals. This publication marks the first time our university has been featured in this prestigious journal.
