On November 19, the launch meeting for the Ministry of Education's "101 Plan" for Basic Disciplines in Statistics, guided by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and hosted by Tsinghua University, was held at Tsinghua University. The meeting was attended by Hou Yongfeng, a senior researcher from the Department of Higher Education, and Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University. JUFE has been selected as a participating university in the "101 Plan" for Basic Disciplines in Statistics. Professor Ping Weiying, Dean of the School of Statistics and Data Science, attended the meeting and spoke as the leader of the "Economic Statistics" textbook construction.
Representatives from 16 universities participating in the Statistics "101 Plan" attended the meeting, including Tsinghua University (leading university), Peking University, Renmin University of China, East China Normal University, Xiamen University, Beijing Normal University, Nankai University, Northeast Normal University, Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, Yunnan University, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, and Southern University of Science and Technology. Over 70 renowned statisticians from home and abroad also participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, Hou Yongfeng, Yang Bin, John Hopcroft (a visiting professor at Peking University and a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Yang Huabing, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Higher Education Press, each delivered speeches.
Chen Songqi, the leading expert of the Statistics "101 Plan," a chair professor at Tsinghua University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced the work plan for the initiative. He stated that through team collaboration, they would effectively promote the implementation of the Statistics "101 Plan" and enhance the talent cultivation capacity for the basic discipline of statistics. The goal is to cultivate more high-level, innovative talents in statistics and data science who are internationally competitive, contributing to the modernization of China.
During the launch meeting, the expert group for the Statistics "101 Plan" was established. Yang Bin presented the appointment letter to Chen Songqi, the leading expert of the Statistics "101 Plan." Chen Songqi then awarded appointment letters to 16 experts.
The Statistics "101 Plan" aims to develop 13 core courses in statistics. The leaders of each core course's textbook development presented their construction plans and engaged in discussions with experts and scholars regarding the writing concepts, target positioning, and expected outcomes of the textbooks.

The Basic Disciplines "101 Plan" is a foundational project for cultivating top innovative talents in China. Its key tasks include developing a number of high-level, innovative, and challenging first-class core courses, producing first-class core textbooks that reflect international academic frontiers and have Chinese characteristics, establishing a first-class teaching team led by distinguished educators, and creating a series of first-class practical projects that integrate science and education with industry. By focusing on foundational elements such as courses, textbooks, teachers, and practical projects, the plan aims to address the "big issues" in talent cultivation and drive significant breakthroughs in higher education reform.
In December 2021, the Ministry of Education initiated the undergraduate education reform pilot program (referred to as the "101 Plan") in the field of computer science. In April 2023, it launched the Basic Disciplines "101 Plan" for fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, basic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, economics, and philosophy. The launch meeting for the Statistics "101 Plan" marks the inclusion of statistics as a new member of China's Basic Disciplines "101 Plan."
