Orientation Work for Foreign Students Were completed Successfully

  As of September 11th,82 new foreign students from 40 countries, including the United States, Britain, France, Russia, South Korea, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries have arrived in JUFE. Among them, 35 are postgraduates, 30 are undergraduates, 16 are master students, and one is a doctoral candidate. Some new foreign students, affected by the delay in visa processing, will complete new students registration in JUFE within  two weeks. According to the deployment of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange(OICE), and after a series of procedures such as airport pickup, check-in, entrance education, course selection, entrance test and physical examination are finished, the foreign students will begin their study journey here.

    In the morning of October 10th, new overseas students attended the school opening ceremony of the class 2018 freshmen of JUFE in Mailu Campus. Kim Doo-hui who comes from South Korea delivered a speech as the representative of new foreign students. She said that China has become the center of the world attention, provideing ideas for global development. For Kim Doo-hui herself, it is a blessing to study in China. As the cooperation and exchange between the two countries increase, she said that she will work hard so as to make contribution to the cooperation and development between China and South Korea andand realize her own value. Her clear Chinese pronunciation and full emotional expression won much applause from all teachers and students.

  Later, the entrance education conference for new foreign students was held at Jiaoqiao Campus. Vice President Wang Xiaoping extended his warm welcome to the overseas students who came from afar. He briefly introduced the opening ceremony,  elaborated the main contents of speech of President Lu Fucai and explained the tradition of inviting alumni representatives, as well as Chinese and foreign freshman representatives to give a speech, giving foreign students a better understanding of the opening ceremony of JUFE. In addition, he  introduced the human geography of Nanchang City, the school history of JUFE, the  discipline construction, and the development of foreign students’ in JUFE. He hoped that overseas students could fully integrate into the study and life in JUFE, especially to actively participate in campus activities and to show their spirit in school sports meeting. Xiao Long, head of OICE, introduced the courses at different levels and in different majors for foreign students, and explained a series of extracurricular activities carefully arranged by OICE such as pairing, Chinese corner, corporate visit and cultural investigation. She expressed her hope that international students can enjoy China's economy, culture, folk customs and people's livelihood as much as possible while observing Chinese laws and regulations, obeying the regulations and the management of the dormitory, and ensuring their own safety and comfort.

    The relevant staff of the OICE introduced in detail the precautions for new students, reminded students to pay attention to the validity period and renewal of visa, and emphasized important matters such as teaching regulations, dormitory management regulations, fee payment ,and insurance purchase. They hope new foreign students can strengthen communication and exchanges with other international students and Chinese students in the cross-cultural context so as to better and faster integrate into the big family of JUFE.The captain of the volunteer team made an introduction of the team organization and some extracurricular activities to be carried out in the new semester and welcomed new foreign students to actively join the volunteer teeam and contribute their own talent. Relevant leaders of the School of Finance, Taxation and Public Administration, the School of International Economics and Trade, the School of Information Management, the School of Tourism and Urban Management, and the School of Humanities attended the meeting and respectively introduced their discipline construction and academic situation . After the conference, they had in-depth communications with foreign students.of their own colleges.

    On September 8th, the Septune International Student Volunteer Team held a "Find Your Language partner" party for new international students in the event room of Interational Student Apartment. Through the party, they find their favorite language partners and increase the familiarity between Chinese and foreign students.

    This activity is divided into three parts: pairing, self-introduction and game interaction. In the pairing part, Chinese students introduced their hometowns and local customs,which improve the understanding of foreign students.  In the self-introduction of international students, everyone gets to know the lively Colombian boy, the cool black lady, the Korean girl who loveto smile, and experienced the American style, British courtesy and South African ethusiasm. In the first game called "string name game", Chinese and foreign students remember each person's name by repeating the names of all people. The second game "grab the stool" is particularly popular, everyone is actively involved in the activity. The atmosphere is very active.

    It is not only an unpredictable accident, but also the destiny that makes people from different places of the world meet in JUFE where talents are accepted, cultures from all over the world are nurtured and friendship is strengthened. The welcome event promoted the cultural exchanges between Chinese and foreign students, fostered the friendship between them, and greatly help the new students in the study and life in JUFE.

    In the afternoon of September 10th, new foreign students completed the processing of campus cards, telephone cards and bank cards. In the morning of September 11th, they did a comprehensive physical examination in Jiangxi Provincial Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. The medical examination report will be obtained after three working days. In the afternoon of the day, all the postgraduates took part in the Chinese proficiency test and completed the course selection  of professional and language courses. Freshmen of English undergraduate majors took the mathematics ability test, which was published and invigilated by the by School of Information Management. In the afternoon of September 12th,  Lou Jie, police officer of the Exit and Entry Administration Department of Nanchang Municipal Public Security Bureau and  Wang Chen, officer of Visa Management department explained the relevant laws and regulations to all the students which improved the understanding of foreign students concerning the laws and regulations of China and raised the awareness of law-abiding.

    By now, the orientation work of the international students in this semester has been basically completed. On September 14th, new foreign students majoring in English will take the English proficiency test invigilated by the School of International Economics and Trade. On September 18th, the Academic Affairs Office will carry out a training program for all undergraduate students and give the professional knowledge guidance of credit earning. New foreign students will complete the residence permit procedures on September 25th and will form pairs with teachers of JUFE on September 28th. All postgraduate students will begin their classes on September 12^th. The freshmen of the master's degree will start classes on September 17^th, The undergraduate majoring in English will start classes on October 8th.
