Six Workshops Weave Together the Full Picture of Hong Kong's Social Services A Five-Day Walking Classroom Decodes Social Work in the Greater Bay Area

From August 24 to 28, 2026, the "Hong Kong Advanced Seminar on Social Organization Management" was held in Hong Kong. Participants visited six institutions and organizations — the University of Hong Kong, the Ebenezer School and Home for the Visually Impaired, the Prince Edward Community Living Room of the Lok Kwan Social Service, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University — and took part in six workshops on partnership building, services for the visually impaired, community governance innovation, youth development, and welfare policy and technology application.

University of Hong Kong: Workshop on "Cross-Sector Symbiosis: Building Partnerships Among NGOs, Enterprises, and Social Enterprises." Learned about HKU's experience in social innovation and social enterprise incubation.

Ebenezer School and Home for the Visually Impaired: Workshop on cross-sector collaboration in services for the visually impaired. Learned about its whole-life service system and the "government funding + social enterprise operation + community support + corporate donation" model.

Prince Edward Community Living Room: Workshop on integrating patriotic education with social services. A flagship project of the "Community Living Room Pilot Scheme," serving subdivided-flat households in Yau Tsim Mong and Sham Shui Po.

Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups: Workshop on "Cultivating Youth Social Innovation Thinking: From Design Thinking to Community Problem-Solving." Learned about its "youth space + innovative education + social practice" model.

Chinese University of Hong Kong: Workshop on "Social Welfare Policy and Practice: Toward an Equal and Sustainable Future." Provided an academic perspective on Hong Kong's social welfare system.

Hong Kong Polytechnic University: Workshop on "Technology Application in Social Services: AI-Assisted Group Work Programme Design." Discussed AI applications in case management, group work, and community services.

The six workshops shared one main thread: Hong Kong's "cross-sector collaboration" methodology — government providing the platform, social welfare organizations operating, the business sector contributing, universities providing intellectual support, and community residents participating together. Participants said they would translate what they learned into practical action to promote the high-quality development of social services in the mainland.
