Opening Ceremony of the Confucius Institute held at Coventry University

On 15th May, the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute was held at Coventry University. The President of JUFE, Wang Qiao attended and delivered a speech. Ni Jian and Shen Yang, both Chinese ambassadors to Britain, Michael Hammon, the mayor of the city of Coventry, and John Latham, president of Coventry University attended the ceremony. 300 representative teachers and students from different universities and Confucius institutes in Britain and from Coventry University witnessed this important moment. David Pilsbury, vice president of Coventry University, and the Dean of Confucius Institute hosted the opening ceremony. Xu Ling, director of Han Ban expressed her warming congratulations to the founding of JUFE’s first Confucius Institute.

 

Wang Qiao and John Latham cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute. After that, JUFE’s Art Troup wonderfully performed and hence shared Chinese traditional culture with everyone present.

 

At last, accompanied by David Pilsbury, Wang Qiao watched the exhibition of Chinese painting and calligraphy and visited the office of the Confucius Institute. He highly appreciated the adequate preparation of Confucius Institute, and extended his wishes to the future development under the joint cooperation between JUFE and Coventry University.

 

The opening ceremony represents the stage of comprehensive cooperation of two sides, which will definitely start a new chapter of educational and cultural exchange between China and Britain. Through the Confucius Institute, both sides can not only promote the Chinese language and culture, but also strengthen the multi-field exchange and cooperation for both students and teachers.
