I. Overview

Since its inception in 2009, the School of Tourism and Urban Management has been serving the rapid urbanization of China. Led by graduate education, the multi-tiered talent training system built by the school is supplemented by on-the-job graduate education and vocational training, with undergraduate education as its core.

 

II. Faculty

The school now has a faculty pool of 58, with 48 full-time lecturers, including 38 teachers with doctorates (2 returnees), 12 professors, 16 associate professors, 4 doctoral supervisors, 19 master supervisors, and 19 teachers who have studied abroad for more than six months.

2. Introduction of Programs

Tourism Administration

(1) Talent Cultivation Goals: This program aims to train versatile and innovative talents in tourism management who have a broad international perspective, strong management ability, and good service awareness, are able to engage in tourism-related management, investment and financing, and planning, and have the qualities of Honesty, Vitality, Integrity, and Tenacity”.

(2) Talent Cultivation Features: The school continually strengthens the integration of the finance and economics disciplines, focuses on tourism investment and financial management as well as tourism planning, highlights the training of students' practical ability to lay a solid foundation for the cultivation of tourism professional managers, and centers on the cultivation of innovative and entrepreneurial talents to form the talent integration training model of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.

(3) Length of Schooling and Awarding of Degrees: The standard length of schooling is four years, with a flexible learning period of 3-6 years. Those who meet the degree requirements shall be awarded a bachelor's degree in management.

(4) Core Courses: Introduction to Tourism, Tourism Consumer Behavior, Management of Tourism Destinations, Tourism Planning and Development, Tourism Investment and Financing Management, Hospitality Operations Management, Tourism Marketing, etc.

Engineering Management

(1) Talent Cultivation Goals: This program aims to train innovative and entrepreneurial talents in engineering management who have systematic management ideas and high management quality, possess good work ethics and broad international vision, are able to engage in project decision-making and full-process management in the field of engineering construction at home and abroad, and have the qualities of Honesty, Vitality, Integrity, and Tenacity”.

(2) Talent Cultivation Features: Adhering to the talent training concept of solid foundation, broad employment, strong practice, and outstanding ability, the school strengthens the training of versatile talents having the knowledge of civil engineering and financial management.

(3) Length of Schooling and Awarding of Degrees: The standard length of schooling is four years, with a flexible learning period of 3-6 years. Those who meet the degree requirements shall be awarded a bachelor's degree in management.

(4) Core Courses: Architectural Charting and Drawing Recognition, Building Construction, Architectural Structure, Engineering Mechanics, BIM Technology and Application Foundation, Engineering Construction, Engineering Economics, Engineering Project Management, Engineering Contract and Bidding, Engineering Project Financing, Engineering Safety and Environmental Management, etc.

Land Resource Management

(1) Talent Cultivation Goals: This program aims to cultivate applied, innovative, and entrepreneurial talents who possess professional knowledge and practical ability related to land resource management and are able to engage in the administrative management of land, real estate, and urban construction, as well as scientific and technological services and consulting of spatial planning, real estate development, and geographic information.

(2) Talent Cultivation Features: Through the integration of diversified school resources, the school implements the multi-level practical teaching systems of combining “curriculum experiment, curriculum design, simulated comprehensive training, off-campus internship, and graduation design (thesis)” and integrating “college student discipline competitions, science and technology innovation competitions, undergraduate innovative and entrepreneurial projects, research projects, and social practice”.

(4) Core Courses: Land Management, Land Resources, Land Economics (Bilingual), Land Surveying, Land Information System (Bilingual), Science of Land Laws, Real Estate Finance and Taxation, Land Use Planning, Spatial Planning of National Land, and Basics and Application of Remote Sensing.

Real Estate Development and Management

(1) Talent Cultivation Goals: This program aims to cultivate innovative and entrepreneurial talents in real estate development and management who are able to engage in project investment and financial management, project development management, and project planning and marketing in domestic and foreign enterprises, public institutions, and government agencies, and have the qualities of Honesty, Vitality, Integrity, and Tenacity”.

(2) Talent Cultivation Features: Relying on the discipline advantages of finance and management and based on real estate development and management, the school integrates the discipline knowledge of public management and finance, among others, to establish a multi-disciplinary knowledge system and to train versatile talents in real estate investment and finance, real estate marketing planning, and real estate project management.

(3) Length of Schooling and Awarding of Degrees: The standard length of schooling is four years, with a flexible learning period of 3-6 years. Those who meet the degree requirements shall be awarded a bachelor's degree in management.

(4) Core Courses: Real Estate Development and Management, Real Estate Finance, Urban Economics, Strategic Management of Real Estate Enterprises, Real Estate Investment Analysis, Real Estate Investment Trust, Real Estate Project Financing, Residential District Planning and Design, etc.

 

IV. Talent Cultivation Achievements

1. Joint Talent Cultivation Projects

In cooperation with the Culture and Tourism Department of Jiangxi Province, the school has held three senior seminars on tourism management talents across the province and more than 200 outstanding professionals of tourism management were trained for the province.

2. Awards 

In recent years, students of all majors in our school have won more than 80 awards for different types of academic competitions at home and abroad, such as the International Gold Award of the 2018 Asia-Pacific Business Event Competition, the International Silver Award of the 2019 (Singapore) Business Event Competition, and the National First Prize of the 2018 National BIM Bidding Competition for Secondary and Higher Education Schools.

3. Student Publications and Patents

In the past five years, students have published more than 90 papers in various journals and obtained more than 10 patents.

4. Graduate Cultivation

In 2019, the school enrolled a total of 40 graduate students. In the same year, all graduate students of the school published 20 papers in core journals and participated in 18 domestic academic exchanges.

5. Outstanding Alumni

After more than two decades of development and construction, a large number of excellent talents have been trained, such as Professor Peng Xingyun of the Institute of Finance of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Deputy Director Zhang Xianqiu of the General Office of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, Board Secretary Li Qian of BYD, General Manager Yang Xiaoqiang of Hainan Silk Road Basic Industry Investment Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager Chu Dali of the Second Engineering Company of Shanghai Construction No.1 (Group) Co., Ltd., Chairman Chen Zhengyu of Zhejiang Huanyu International Travel Service, etc.

VI. Teaching and Research Achievements

The faculty members have undertaken 32 projects supported by the National Social Science Foundation of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 70-plus projects at provincial and ministerial levels. Nearly 300 of the faculty’s papers were indexed into core journals and above. Specifically, more than 200 papers were indexed into CSSCI and elsewhere. Additionally, teachers of the school have published 30-plus monographs and compiled 15 textbooks. 34 research reports written by our faculty members received positive remarks from 42 leaders, four of which were from state leaders. 

 

VII. International Cooperation and Exchange

Since its establishment, the school has been adhering to the idea of international cooperation with other universities. According to the actual situation, the school has established joint training programs for students with 78 universities in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, the USA, the UK, and Australia based on the global exchange platform for college students. In 2017, it jointly set up the Research Center for Cross-strait Real Estate with the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, which is also the first cross-border joint collaboration platform of our school. In 2019, the school officially joined the China-ASEAN Tourism Education Alliance, the first international organization joined by our school. In addition, it has also carried out school-level exchange and cooperation with many universities such as Temple University, North Arizona University, Oklahoma State University, University of Adelaide, Deakin University, and Bond University.
