On May 7th, the 5th International Investment Forum of the Chinese Society of World Economy was held at JUFE. The forum was sponsored by the Chinese Society of World Economy, and co-organized by the Multinational Company Research Center of Nankai University, APEC, the Institute for International Economics, and the School of International Economic and Trade of JUFE. The theme of the forum was the global value chain and two-way international investment policy coordination. More than 90 experts and scholars have been invited to attend.

JUFE’s vice president Jiang Jinfa attended the forum and delivered an opening speech. He briefly introduced the recent development of JUFE and School of International Economic and Trade. According to his words, he hoped that the forum could stimulate some newly-formed academic theories and advanced academic achievements, so as to push forward the research direction of the School of International Economic and Trade.

Professor Xian Guoming delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Society of World Economy. He pointed out that the complicated international economic situation increased the difficulty of investing abroad. Therefore, it is necessary to deepen the related research to enhance China’s status in the global value chain. Through discussions on various issues, he hoped that the current academic research of JUFE could be closer and more practical to society. Gong Xiaofeng’s speech focused on the new industrial revolution, the division of the global industrial chain and the smart evolution of the manufacturing industry. As he said, the Chinese government should encourage the innovation of enterprises with international competitiveness.

The forum was divided into four phases and five sub-forums. Representatives from government departments, universities and enterprises discussed various issues, including the global value chain, the policy of the Belt and the Road and investments abroad, regional economic integration, and other related issues.

The two days’ forum not only set up a high-end communication platform, but also achieved numerous cooperation achievements. The communications among scholars, entrepreneurs and government departments will certainly push forward the issues on the global value chain and China’s investments abroad. Besides, it can establish a global bridge between both industrial and academic circles.
